Behind Each Curtain ...
Beyond Each Curtain …
We subdivide our lifetime into decades as we also subdivide our days into hours and minutes. Each increment is an artificial marker and we pass these as we would mileposts on a journey, aware of the distances measured and incapable of changing the self-imposed divisions of space and time.
Often we hear of ‘living in the moment’ which suggests that somehow the usual measurements of time have been dispensed with. It is also suggested that this state of mind is neither easily attained nor easily maintained for extended periods of time. We seem to need to measure our lives’ progress.
Nonetheless, as though ‘first there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is’ each increment is actually more like the parting of a curtain beyond which is yet another curtain in the distance. Beyond each curtain then, a sense of promise or perhaps apprehension but as far as we can see there is no complete view of a final curtain. So for us, beyond each curtain another awaits.
